Anyone else think 9-5 is unnecessary for most IT related jobs and perhaps other jobs? A lot of times things get done way quicker than within that timeframe I find. I think in this day and age, unless there is a specific need for you to work those hours, you should be paid on output, not hours work.

I also and it maybe an ADHD/Aspie thing but don't have the motivation to work 9-5 and I also think it's in our nature to question the "rules of society" much more than NT's. What do you guys think?

It is, and this is how the IT industry works. Unless you have a meeting with someone, some companies allow you to work whenever you want as long as you do 40 hours a week so they get their moneys worth.

Sure, plenty of IT people I know are on-call, work-from-home types. And not wanting to work 40 hours or more isn't wrong. If you have a skilled job that pays enough per hour, you don't need to work full time to have enough to live on.

I agree. Maybe not all jobs, but I think that paying on output rather than hours would encourage people to do a lot more work

If it takes you less than 8 hours to finish your work than perhaps you could do more challenging work and get paid more.

The whole concept of 9-5 to me is not only unnecessary, it's outdated.

Which concept would you suggest instead?
