question about Splinter Cell Double Agent, co-op.

Hey, I don't really have a 2nd player to play with yet, but I will soon enough. I was playing around controlling both players, trying to learn the tactics. But on the 2nd stage, where I had to perform Tomoe nage to jump over the crag, I can't get it to work for some reason. Instead of throwing the other player out over the crag it seems to toss him straight up in the air
This clearly isn't doing me any good, because I need to figure out how to get both players out over that crag. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong trying to perform the tomoe nage?

Can anyone tell me how to use the tomoe nage to toss me over instead of up?
