Well... Regardless of anything, it's true that they would be alive if the guy didn't carry a gun.
If there where laws preventing them carrying a gun though, would that have actually stopped him? Does someone planning to go shoot up someones home really care if its legal or not to acquire a gun? If they cannot get one there are many other ways to carry out a rampage like that. So then that presents the problem of people who would only use a gun in self defense and likely are more likely to abide by such laws can't have them unless they get them illegally making them criminals as well....so therein lies the issue.
Where there's demand there will be supply...so it seems outlawing guns would mostly hurt people who aren't out to hurt/kill/threaten with a gun. Also what would be next any knives that aren't for cooking? that would upset a lot of blade collectors and my brother has quite a few knives/swords it would be terrible if it became a crime to own them. I was even thinking of getting a nice one myself when I have such funds I certainly don't mean to stab anyone but I like the craftsmanship I guess and sometimes artwork in the handle.
For once we agree on something!

I agree as well. When you criminalize guns, then only criminals will have guns. That's just how it goes.
Furthermore, my views are not even remotely opposite of yours. My views are in support of the status quo, which I perceive as generous. You ought to show greater appreciation for that. It is not your guns or your perceived rights to them that I despise. You are simply a jerk, and that is not about to change.

In this case the world may have really been better off without him...
Just could not resist that one.
You're right.

You're right. I absolutely thinks so too.

Although it is defensible or even advisable to train in preparation for a variety of possible situations, when I was a young child, my father carefully passed on to me the instruction given to him by his grandmother. I can assure you that, if they do it in Hollywood, it is wrong. The image you present is that of a naive child. It is s fantasy.
It's an avatar you silly goose, get over it.
One of my former avatars was the insignia of the 3rd SS Panzer Division and the more people whined about it and called me a nazi the more I loved it.
And whatever your pappy and grandmomma taught you about handguns and tactics is now outdated. There ARE times when a one handed hold (strong hand or weak hand) are appropriate. Two-handed, of course, is always preferable for accuracy and control. I've done lots and lots of defensive handgun drills and shot some IDPA matches so my knowledge isn't all from Hollywood like you wish it was.
You're an anti-gun gun owner (if you're actually a gun owner at all) which is worse than an outright anti-gunner. Of the two I'd rather have a regular anti-gunner around since with them I know what I'm dealing with. It's like having a straight out enemy around as opposed to a traitor.
Having you around makes me enjoy being a jerk.

And I'll be a criminal because I have lots of guns and they're not going anywhere.

Guns are tools, and it's up to the person who has one to decide what they do with it. They may be slightly deadlier than your average tools, as they expel chunks of metal at a high velocity, but they are still tools first and foremost. I support responsible gun usage and ownership.
This may sound like crazy talk coming from someone who generally regards themselves as being on the left side of the political spectrum, but I'm a big believer in personal liberties. I'm on the left because I care about having a social safety net, so that those of us who are at a disadvantage in society aren't forced to sink or swim. I'd be a hypocrite otherwise, since I'm receiving government assistance after being deemed "unemployable" by a neuropsychologist's assessment.

Nothing wrong with that position at all. Two of the biggest gun nuts I know of, William Burroughs and Hunter S. Thompson, were flaming liberals.

Kurt Cobain was apparently a gun enthusiast as well, and if he wasn't liberal, then I don't know who would be.
I grew up in the USA in a family that owned and used guns. I learned to shoot at a young age. I used guns throughout my life and never shot at anybody, including animals, until I needed to kill chickens in a rainforest that I could not get into to catch them (food). I don't believe guns make people violent.
I now live in Australia and we have strict gun laws and I like it. I like not worrying about guns. I do think the gun legislation is skewed here towards those with money, and I find that problematic for a lot of reasons, but otherwise do prefer the way we manage firearms here to the way we manage them in the USA.
Here people still attack each other, sometimes I think Australia is more overtly violent than the USA - but you never read about anybody 'mass syringing' (syringes used as weapons) or 'mass stabbing' or 'mass glassing' at a school here. Here when folks are murdered in the country it's on the news - the national news: someone was murdered. I don't think it's because we're not violent that we have such a low murder rate, I think it's because all our angry people don't have easy access to firearms.

I hadn't know he was - I just knew he had ended his life with a gun.

Guns aren't going anywhere. To say otherwise is just right wing propaganda to keep the crackers hating liberals.
It is paranoid to believe that there even could be a nationwide gun confiscation. However, legislation to incrementally attack firearms by type and feature is a real threat and a stepping stone to attacks on other firearms, ammuniton, places to shoot, etc.....

It might surprise you but even as a hate-filled jackbooted conservaive I believe in a social safety net, too.
A net to help the unfortunate, though, and not a hammock for slackers to lounge on.
