In Sweden's case, sometimes.

Actually, i view Sweden as the world's good conscience. <.< Atm anyway.

And the only place where Canada is liable to send troops at in the near future would be in the North, to stop russians and americans from claiming the passage there. <.<

Yes, I view the USA as a threat to most of the world, because its destructive capability far surpasses that of any other country or alliance of countries, and that capability is sometimes used for reasons that are not exactly altruistic. However, I also think that the US's potential influence for good is unparalleled. So yes, the USA is a threat, but probably not the most dangerous.

the government? oh, absolutely. (ask just about anyone in South/Central America just how that tinpot dictator got into office. if they're not actively terrified by the fact that you're speaking with a North American accent, they'll tell you: the CIA certainly "helped.")

it's not just what we see on the surface--the invasions/occupations for no real reason (i.e., Iraq, Pakistan, etc.) it's about what happens when you combine empire-like tendencies with a shadow government. most of our "intelligence agencies" are not answerable to the public--even nominally. (i'm talking about CIA, NSA, etc.)

thus, our history of "intervention" is pretty brutal. google "freedom of information act" sometime--it should give you some idea of what our various agencies have been up to for years. (Indonesia--Suharto; Iran--the toppling of Mossadegh, re-installation of the shah; Chile--Allende; Congo--Lumumba. etc. those are a few of the examples that have since been publicly outed.)

sadly, we're often not informed of the real pain we cause overseas. the information usually isn't on the 6 o'clock news. thus, it goes on and on. very few people speak out.

Not just them, but many "government agencies" operate with essentially ZERO accountability and then you have outside entities (like the Federal Reserve Bank...a private entity) which wields enough clout to set national policy. They tell leaders what will be done or the economy goes into the toilet.

Right now, elections don't matter. You get to pick who will sit in office. Maybe they'll do one or two housekeeping things for their constituents to keep up appearances, but over 90% of Congress doesn't do what the people want. They're passing 1,000+ page bills without ever reading them.

Yes we're a huge threat with all the nuclear ba ba ba ba bombs and our ongoing invasions like Iran.

I thought this war to be a bad idea a long time ago and if it were up to me, I say we get our troops the hell out of there....but sadly I think it's a little late for that now. /:

Our country is getting worse imo.

I think the way in which the USA is most dangourous, and this applies to europe for that matter, is it's willingness to sell arms to some of the most brutal regimes around.

I don't have any exact statistics but I would make an estimated guess that more people have been killed in the past hundred years from weapons the US sold to someone else than have actually been killed by US soldiers.

^Good point.

Which is why I don't normally put my location down. >_<

Had some members attack me on another board by saying "you Americans"...while debating me for America's past and present mistakes.

Knew another girl who got made fun of because she lived in Germany and....you know the stereotype.

No joke /:

I guess no country is perfect unless you're an upper scandinavian prig who's a non-deist that reads too many books in subjects of philosophy. :nerdy:

Kidding.... :P

Goodness gracious! I thought this was a site for nerds. Admittedly Scandinavia has its faults but I find them rather minor compared to the USA.

The whole thing is just a continuation of what has been happening for close to 1500 years whereby the Christian and Muslims both want to control the whole world. The old Byzantine and Ottoman empires. This conflict has been going in various forms and is possibly the war of Gog and Magog mentioned in the bible. It is also the war of Edom (the West / Christians) and Ishmael (the East / Islam) mentioned in the Zohar. Also note the various nations that will dominate the world as mentioned in the book of Daniel.
