If marijuana's illegal, why isn't milk?
That's about it. Tobacco and alcohol have better lobbyists in D.C. working for them. MJ was banned because of a move by the timber industry who saw hemp as a threat to their business. None of it had to do with the alleged dangers of using MJ...that was the public face used to sell the ban on the public.
Most people don't think of milk as a drug, and you haven't presented a good case that it is.
The whole 'gateway' theory is a crock - better to demolish it, rather than use it to suggest that milk causes alcoholism.

Milk contains codeine, which is an opiate. That makes it a drug.

Although the pure whiteness of milk as a target is appealing the addictive value of milk is rather weak if at all. Coffee or cola drinks and tea are probably much more appropriate to your argument.

Milk does not contain codeine.
They say marijuana is bad
But has it killed anyone?
Milk is also a drug, it really is
If Mary Jane leads to bigger drugs
When so does dairy products we consume
And what of smoking and alcohol?
In the drunken stupor of legal drink,
Brawls and bad decisions are common
Lungs of smokers cringe heavily
Every puff they take cause harm in others
Drugs that are harmful, yet ignored
Is this a poem?
(If so, why doesn't it rhyme?! )
Cretin!
I like poems better when they rhyme.
But that's just me.

DRUGS
They say marijuana is bad
And it’s difficult to be had
But has it killed anyone?
No. It’s just for fun.
Milk is also a drug, it really is
No matter it stays quiet, no fizz
If Mary Jane leads to bigger drugs
That not only addict but make you bugs
When so does dairy products we consume
To lead you to a different doom
And what of smoking and alcohol?
People think they’re no problem at all.
In the drunken stupor of legal drink,
You can’t walk or talk or think.
Brawls and bad decisions are prevailing
With minds and bodies sick and ailing.
Lungs of smokers cringe heavily
And life has no decent reveille
Every puff they take cause harm in others
Sons, daughters, fathers, mothers.
Drugs that are harmful, yet ignored
At prices no one can afford.

No, it doesn't. The protein can be broken down to casorphins and lactorphins, which are somewhat like endorphins. But most protein out there can be broken down to endorphin-like substances, and milk also creates molecules that block the opiate receptors ... it isn't clear that these compounds in milk can alter mood much, if at all.
Let's be real: if you were going for surgery, would you rather the doctor give you a shot of morphine, or a glass of milk??
ChangelingGirl beat me to one of my criticisms of the "gateway drug" argument. Marijuana is a gateway drug because to get marijuana while it is illegal, you have to know a drug dealer. Once you start associating with a drug dealer, other illegal drugs become obtainable. Making marijuana legal would reduce, if not eliminate, the gateway effect.
My other problem with the "gateway drug" theory is what I call the "boy who cried wolf" phenomenon. If the government says all drugs are bad, and that any drug will turn you into a homeless addict turning tricks for your next fix, and then you try marjiuana and it is not as bad as the government says, then you may think, "Hey, if everything the government said about weed is a lie, maybe everything they say about smoking meth is, too!"
It is frankly appalling to me, the extent to which the government itself and its anti-drug disinformation efforts bear a lot of the blame for people's poor choices.
I had a phase in my life with a close friend who was a drug dealer and I could get basically anything I wanted. I never got heroin. I never got crystal meth. I never got crack. Why? Because my own research convinced me there was enough truth to the notion that those have a seriously dangerous addictive potential. I tried just about everything else. I'm still here. I learned a lot about myself and life. I've got a wife, kids, job. For over 3 years, I've done nothing harder than weed.
While I suspect that some drugs can steal your soul very quickly, perhaps from one use, there are enough fun ones that do not do that, that you can legalize illegal drugs, give people correct information without exaggeration, and they will by and large make sound decisions. And if they don't, they have self-destructive issues and were probably going to find a way to self-destruct anyways.
It is not necessary to ‘know’ a dealer, or anyone how has access to hard drugs.
The fact is not all people who smoke weed do hard drugs. So the gateway theory lacks evidence. It could be more behavioural, as in these people are more like to try things. Full stop.
