Or leave them no choice but to peddle substances more harmful than cannabis. Please, think of the children.

That depends on a lot of factors.....for one maybe they could switch to legal production, or its possible if they mass produce legal marijuana but the quality is lacking people would still buy from the smaller distributers.

But yes there are possible downsides with legalization.....especially with the government we have running things.

1. Society perpetually feels the need to "draw the line" somewhere, and to punish individuals who "cross the line", so that Society can assert its dominance over the individual. If Cannabis were to become illegal, then Society would feel compelled to "draw the line" elsewhere. And, it might end up being in an area that would affect me personally.

2. Prisons are profitable. Just ask anyone in a town where a state or federal prison is located.

3. Making it legal would reduce profits for the present distributors.

4. It would end up being taxed.

5. Second Amendment Rites.

6. It keeps the police and courts occupied.

7. Excessive permissiveness would lead us down the path towards European-style civil and individual liberties, and towards European-style Socialism. Legalizing marijuana would severely jeopardize our standing as the most morally upright nation on the planet.

So much wrong with this. Wow.

If it was legal the present distributors would not longer be criminals, they would become business people.

I think many would become people with buisinesses, but I highly doubt they'd all start wearing ties and suits...I just don't see that happening.

One thing to keep in mind is that marijuana consumption can be extremely dangerous for people with certain heart conditions (many are undiagnosed). People with long QT or ventricular tachyarrhythmias have died in the process of smoking weed.

Well do they die from the chemicals in marijuana or inhaling marijuana smoke? because there is a difference.

I think it's the chemicals, but I am again unsure. Either way, I don't see how that works as an argument. To some people, soda is lethal. We don't ban soda.

Joking right?

In part, if choice exists.

I have trouble decoding "jest" at the best of times. When I see people claiming the US is morally upright I instantly think they've misspelled "Bankrupt".

I wonder why some of us are practically incapable of writing a humourless sentence, while others of us wouldn't recognize humour if it was the most hilarious joke ever told?

Marijuana would help boost the economy and make small business grow economically for any nation because. Of all the things you can do with Hemp plus we can stop tearing down trees that give us air to breathe and save the rain forrest. And by making it legal we will finally stop hurting the enviroment if we could make Hemp products instead of tearing down trees to make paper ect.

My misinterpretation is knee-jerk and from a victims perspective 80% of the time. Stuff I'm still working on. Especially things I'm passionate about. Lastly, I'm often surrounded by people who tend to make statements like the one you posted and it twists me into a frenzy. :)

They don't have to wear ties and suits. But they could open cofee shops, or garden centres, or farms, or bakeries.

Yeah, bakeries. My sole drug experience came from accidentally eating some ganja-laced cookies on a beach in Thailand.

Yeah if they want to......but I imagine many would just want to still sell weed, and maybe grow it if they are a grower.
