I'm not american can someone explain my what's going on with this electoral college and popular vote.

I heard that "You Know Who" lost in popular vote but win in electoral college,

I do not understand this, elections are won or lost. there are no other option.

New old president looks very competent man, if I were an American I can also voted for him, but does not understand the American electoral system, It's too much like Schrödinger cat ;-)

The US electoral system is throroughly explained in this article (including why swing states matter so much).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_College_(United_States)

Apparently, the winner of the election has not been the winner of the popular vote in 3 elections; 1876, 1888 and 2000.

And latest CNN estimate is that Obama won both the popular vote (50% vs. 48% to Romney) and the electoral college (303 vs 206).

I think Obama would have been able to accomplish much more in his first term if the Republicans and especially the Tea Party had not made it their prime focus to try to stop him from accomplishing anything. It angered me that they were so intent on making Obama look bad that they were willing to risk harm to America just so they could blame him. I wonder if they will continue to try as hard to sabotage his second term as they did his first term, and if they do, how much their bigoted ignorant hatred will harm our country, our species or our planet.

I am also encouraged that in his new administration there is a chance of the Supreme Court having one or more justices replaced, which could affect its composition for decades to come and, as I see it, from the more intelligent and more compassionate side of the political fence. As a voting adult for the past thirty years, I have seen the Republicans become more and more greedy and insane. They give outrageously extremely unfair advantages to the rich regardless of the social or environmental costs, exploit the poor, rape the planet, are anti-science, and try to legislate people's personal lives when it is none of their damn business what people do in private.

It is disturbing to see the increased polarity and hatred in the political divisions of this country. Basically as I see it the Democrats at least try to help the poor, protect the environment, work with other nations instead of bossing them around, and favor education. tolerance and what is most fair for EVERYONE. The Republicans have become the party of unbridled short-sighted greed, extreme religious fanaticism, ignorance and fear.

Go Obama! Yay!

My country is also divided.

Some support liberal "Civic Platform" other conservative "Law and Justice", I generally supported the the liberals but I think in the next election vote for the the conservatives

Thank the deity or demon of you choice for the 13th Amendment, as well. Without it, no black man would have been allowed to vote, much less run for president.

It looks like the rightwing in your country is worse then here in UK. But I would like to talk about demacrats helping the poor. I can't over enthersise the damage that has been done black people because of democrats wealthere. They encouraged the brake up of black families. The situation is so bad for black people, with more going to jail the collage. black people are different in other parts of the world because they have never been exposed to this form of socialism.

Here in the UK, African immigrants are doing exceptionally well. There are loads of them in Univercities, many have good jobs( including my doctor) and they are less inclide to violent behavour and broken families, or alchol and drugs.

I recommend you listen to milton Friedman Free to Choose

Replace bolded sections with "slavery".
More accurate.

I am not sure if you came across this in your research, but the electoral college was extremely useful at one time. In 1787, the United States was as big as Western Europe, and far less dense. Travel was long, dangerous and expensive, and a national campaign was impossible. The Founders decided the best way to solve this problem was for each state to send electors to Washington. They would meet with the candidates, and ultimately decide who would be president.

The constitution provided that the states could determine how to allocate their electors. After a while, it was possible to campaign nationally, and most states allocated ALL their electors to whomever won more than half of the electoral vote. Basically, the electoral college is a vestige of a different era. It survives because of politics.
