Romans 1,1-17
Martin Luther, that famous religious manic-depressive, spent a great deal of time reading these first seventeen verses of Romans - for months on end he pondered their meaning in the seclusion of a monastery. Finally - he formulated his "new theology"....
.... but there is more in these verses than he ever suspected.
All the references to Jesus in these verses were interpolated into the text by someone other than the author.
Someone "doctored" the text.
In verse 1 " a servant of Christ Jesus" was added.
Verses 3-6 were added
In verse 7 "and Lord Jesus Christ" was added
In verse 8 "through Jesus Christ" was added
In verse 9 "in the gospel of the Son of him" was added
So:
Paul, called to be an apostle, having been separated to the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through the prophets of him in writings holy, to all those being in Rome beloved of God, called to be holy: Grace to you and peace from God the Father of us... and so on.
The Greek text that is left after removing these interpolations had exactly 1000 letters ... and is "structured".
Whoever wrote the original (in Greek) was alarmingly intelligent ... he had an extraordinary "command of language".
At the time - when people wrote books, and even letters, there was a danger than someone might alter the text. For instance:
An author writes "... the Emperor is a wise man ...". then someone puts out copies reading "... the Emperor thinks he is a wise man ..." So lots of people used codes in their text in order to prove that they didn't write the altered texts.
Ovid did in his poetry, Josephus did as well ... lots of authors did.
The "structure" of the recovered original Greek text of Romans 1,1-17 is the "code" used by its author - and its really cute!
I picture the author as a philosopher rather than a religious man ...
... I rather like him.
As for the guy who introduced the "religious maniac" stuff about Jesus Christ ... he seems a bit "off his head" about something.
... as most Christians are.
