Moscow is considering Serbia's request for defensive weapons and interest in deepening military ties.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin met with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade Monday, and afterward said the final decision on Serbia's request to procure Russian weapons would be made to meet Serbia's minimal security requirements. Russian state-owned Sputnik News reports that during the meeting, Rogozin presented a mock-up of Russian-made S-300 air defense system.

Serbia's request for Russian arms comes after its neighbor Croatia began talks with Norway to acquire ballistic missile defense systems. However, Russian state-owned news agency Tass reports Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic maintains he does not want to start a war with Croatia. Vucic says Croatia's move raises national security concerns.

So you're telling us that rival petty states in the Balkans are upping the ante with each other? And that its attracting the attention of Russia, and of Western European powers?

Didn't we hear that tune before -like in a certain moment a 101 years ago?

But of course nothing much resulted from it that time!

Except for that little unpleasantness called "the First World War"!

A forward base behind the missile shield.

Not a lot to worry about. Worry about Hungary telling the EU to shove it over refugee quotas, Ukraine, and joining the EEU and The BRICS.

The Ukraine Bandera killed a lot of Hungarians and Poles. It is like the United States bringing the National Socialists back to power in Germany.

Eastern Europe is changing sides.

This should be expected with the NATO encroachment into the Balkans

A few S400s in Serbia is a pretty measured response to NATO trying to take over eastern Europe all the way up to Russia's doorstep. They're inviting Montenegro into NATO, ridiculous. Why is that Republika Srpska is not entitled to self determination?

NATO should be ended, it has no place in 2016.

Viktor Yushchenko was the main supporter of Bandera and this was widely condemned especially by Europeans.

'Eastern Europe' is not a single view point.

The Russians have been really protective over the Serbs and this dates back centuries. After the Ottoman invasion of Serbia in the 14th century, Serbian refugees found refuge in Russia Lazar the Serb and Pachomius the Serb, were some of the notable Serbs in Russian medieval history. In 1404, Lazar the Serb built the first mechanical public clock in Russia. However, Josip Broz Tito famously rejected Stalin's pressures to fulfill membership and helped create the Non-Aligned Movement, which was regarded as the third major power bloc after NATO and the Warsaw Pact

Respublika Srpska has nothing to do with it, you should be referring to Serbia proper. That being said, Serbs, or rather, the former Yugoslavia chose to stay apart from both sides in the cold war. Even though they are buying a Russian missle defense system, I doub't that they will align themselves with the EU, NATO, or BRICS when all is said and done with.
