Don't let anyone ever try to normalize the current political situation for you, or try to tell you your fears are not justified. Trump and his surrogates are trying to get the minds of his opponents to shut down via a barrage of psychological attacks:

These attacks involve:

1.) Telling lots of lies to try to get you to the point where you don't know what's true anymore. 14% of Trump's statements are half-true, 20% are mostly false, 33% are false, and 16% are false while being ridiculous:

2.) Assaulting your ability to reason and think logically. Trump frequently contradicts himself and uses circular reasoning, tautology, and other logical fallacies:

http://www.salon.com/2017/02/25/beware- ... isastrous/

3.) Being bullies. Trump and his team are full of bullies. Remember, Trump took time out in the first Presidential debate to bully Rosie O'Donnell! He frequently picks on others and scapegoats whole groups of people.

4.) Creating spectacle after spectacle. Trump and his team are creating controversy after controversy, always trying to start stuff with the media. This of course attracts viewers for media companies. Constantly watching TV like this, however, can make it difficult for you to see things in context, to see the "big picture". This will reduce people's ability to resist:

5.) Overwhelming us. Overall, Trump and his team are overwhelming people in their barrage. People are complaining of their minds being numb, of feeling really anxious, and burned out. This will hurt citizens' ability to participate in their government effectively:

So remember to stay mindful of all these tactics and NEVER EVER let people make you doubt your perception, memory, or sanity. Stay fresh, and don't feel like you have to follow every controversy. Keep your eye on the ball, set some important goals you want to work toward both personally and politically, and stay in touch with people in your community. Always try to take a step back when you aren't feeling right, if your head feels numb or you feel anxious, and don't let it overwhelm you, and look at the situation with fresh eyes.

We can get through this! :D

At least twice, Trump & Co. have cited a news article as a source of truth.

"Looks what's happening in Switzerland"
"Obama had me bugged"

Trump defends his inaccuracies with "... well .. I read it in a news article".

Those tactics are used by both sides.

An objective assessment would show that Trump is a noticeably worse offender than conventional politicians.

Of course he's the worst offender but that doesn't excuse the other offenders.

This is the new normal. The Trumpers learned from Saul Alinsky and the regressive left well. Now plain old liberals are learning to use these tactics also.
