I post this because I care about this industry.

Capitalism needs regulations to prevent s**t like this.

News Flash: Micro$oft is not a charitable institution!

(Pause to let that sink in.)

No business should be required to maintain operations that not only do not show a profit, but that require more money to support than they return to the company.  If an operation cannot generate enough revenue on its own to pay taxes, maintain the facility, retain workers, and have enough left over to sweeten the savings of the owners and stockholders, then it should be shut down, the facilities sold, and the product line (and its support) discontinued.

That's just good business.

Record breaking profits and they still shut studios down and lay off thousands. No job security whatsoever. Where's the trickle down? I thought when companies make a lot of money it results in pay raises and promotions. I don't give a rat's flying ass about shareholders. They shut these companies down. They COULD have sold them, but they DIDN'T.

Just one more reminder that business doesn't equal morality. That's why I don't give much support to the free-market ideology, and prefer that the wings of big business are clipped now and then.

You call laying off workers instead of giving them higher pays all because after a huge profit increase is now a steep decline, a good business?

Microsoft and every public corporation is required by law to do every they can to maximize shareholders and indirect shareholders like myself's profit.Microsoft is just doing what they legally have to do to make people like myself more money.I own Microsoft indirectly. You could argue what they are doing is a result of the regulation of their fiduciary duty to shareholders.

Buying one laptop with Microsoft's Windows 11 is a customer thing rather than a shareholder thing. You don't get a stake from buying a laptop with Microsoft's Windows operating system.

Ah. I see. So you've actually invested in Microsoft. Congratulations on joining the gambling game with other shareholders.

Same here.  And because it is legal to close down and sell off under-performing units and pass along the dividends to the stockholders (people like you and I), there is nothing to be done about it.  If you can invest, then do it.  If you cannot invest, then good luck with your retirement, if you ever get a chance to have one.

Capitalism is just another way of saying the race to the bottom. Of course it poisons everything it touches, that's what toxins do.

Capitalism is just an economic system wherein the means of production are not owned by the workers.  It is neither evil nor good, but only a means of making value-added profit for those who DO own the means of production -- the Capitalists.

So basically, if you want the capitalists to solve the world's problems, you have to convince them that doing so would be more profitable than ignoring or even causing those very same problems.

But no one seems either willing or able to do that, I'm afraid.

Let's put the workers in control of the means of production then.

Pretty much every American worker can own a piece of the means of production in America in the mega-corporations they work for if they buy stock in that company. Some rank-and-file workers who started out dirt poor in their career have even become millionaires doing that.So virtually every American worker can buy stock if they have the money. The capitalist system in America provides a way for workers to own the means of production. However I must concede all they would get is ownership and not control.

The trouble is trying to afford one stock which can be very expensive depending on the value.

Good point but there are ways around that. There is fractional ownership which allows you to own just a piece of a share of stock. You could also invest 1 dollar into a index fund or ETF and you would own a piece of 500 to 3,000 plus stocks depending on the fund.
