he had a marvelously rich and deep, expressive voice. the perfect announcer, and so much more. 
he's in the helluva heavenly band of the ages now.

not only is he still alive and kicking like hell, he still is doin' it to it like frankie used to do it. he has choice genes if ever anybody had choice genes. but remember there are other jones-types for which the boatman could come a'callin'....
Thats true, but my favorite singer thats still living from that era is Wayne Newton. I never cared for Tom Jones. I do love Frank and Dean though. And Tony Bennet. I also like Louis Prima, do you know of him?

i know of him, he and keely smith were an interesting duo. what a contrast between the two. my fave of the era had to be a tie between johnny desmond [voice of an angel] and bobby darin [a devil of a raconteur who truly could do it all]. also, AFAIC, tom jones [along with bobby] is the pete fountain of singers. johnny desmond was the artie shaw of singers.
anytime, but i really don't have that many fave singers that anybody else would likely care to read about. you might know a lot more than me in this area. i think that the music would could have used a singer with a deep rich voice like the late don cornelius, who would've made brook benton sound like a choirboy.
