Why spend money to save people when you can use it to kill people? Amirite?

My guess is up until the 60's, such a thing would have been welcomed.

Would be welcome anytime by real Americans.

I'm thinking something along the lines of the parades they had in the old USSR.

A vulgar display of military might.

What about all the current & retired military men calling this a waste of money or third world BS?

F*ck the treasonous bastards

That is no way to respect the men and woman who've fought and died for your freedom...

Who will pay for it?

American taxpayers?

We'll redirect funds from social programs so the money won't be squandered.
But yes, ultimately it's taxpayer money.

And how would that prevent money being squandered exactly?

His point is that any money spent on social programs is "squandered". In other words "money spent of poor folks is squandered, money spent on a Soviet Style May Day parade is not squandered".

At this point, the Republicans are exactly like Captain Ahab from Moby-Dick.

"That inscrutable thing is chiefly what I hate; and be the white whale agent, or be the white whale principal, I will wreak that hate upon him. Talk not to me of blasphemy, man; I'd strike the sun if it insulted me."

George Carlin was correct when he said, "War is just one big prick waving contest." So, yeah, let's have a big military parade and show the world just how big are pricks are. We've got the biggest pricks, don't f**k with us or we'll stick our bigger pricks right up your ass!

How much money has been squandered on stuff like this?

US Air force puts on a SHOW OF FORCE to show the world who's boss.

Having grown up in Nellis AFB territory I know there's nothing new about this sort of thing at all. It seems like the only reason why people are suddenly becoming unglued over something like this, is because this time it has the name Trump attached to it.

That parade isn't very ostentatious.

I don't see any sign that the Canadians are trying to mimic the military parades of the former Soviet Union, which is what Raptor explicitly called for.

In that video, I only saw Canadian military personnel marching and playing bagpipes, demonstrating their self-discipline, as well as their awesome taste in music.

I'm pretty sure that Raptor wants a military parade in which tanks are driven through the street and people chant "This is my rifle! This is my gun! This is for fighting! This is for fun!"

That would be ostentatious.

Raptor is just a WP member.

People aren't freaking out over Raptor.

They're freaking out over Trump wanting a parde similar to the one in France.

The UK and its Commonwealths have military parades all the time. That was just one of many of them.

How upset have you been over them in the past?

Carlin wasn't entirely correct.

Machismo certainly plays a role in militaristic propaganda (especially in the United States) but the elites who start these wars are usually motivated by greed alone. Our elites are generally too smart to believe in the xenophobia and machismo that they insert into the propaganda that they create.

Overall, I don't like it when people blame sexism for every little bad thing. I will agree that sexism is bad, but this doesn't mean that sexism is responsible for every little bad thing that happens.

When it comes to war, greed is the major deciding factor.

Every year we head over to Tampa for Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC). I have a immediate family member who was SF, so it's a bit of a tradition to go and see the old unit kick some ass. It's very enjoyable and the members are very happy to show off their talents to friends and family whom otherwise don't know what they do. This demonstration invites units from all over the world to come over and demonstrate, the US is clearly a bit of a show off every year and it's damn awesome.

Only on April 25th, Anzac Day, does NZ hold a memorial service every year for men and women who were killed or injured in the two world wars. It is not a celebration of military might in any way. It is to honour those men and women, their families and their sacrifices. It is day to acknowledge the sacrifice these people made. It includes those who served in any other war too - Korea, Vietnam, the middle east.

It is a dignified and respectful service, not a spectacle of tanks, weapons and glorifying of military might and patriotic flag waving, not for politicians to exalt themselves (they lay wreaths) and hog the limelight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5jM_BJMUY0

It's a day of mourning, not boasting and chest beating.
