for comparison's sake, the GDP of England is roughly 6.5 trillion bucks. ours is about 18 trillion bucks. can anyone say "black budget"?
so the next time some DC slimebucket says we can't afford to fix our health care system [which would cost about 3 trillion to do right], tell 'em to go pound sand up their traitorous tuchas.

Like Senator Everett Dirksen once said "a billion here, and billion there, and before you know it...you're talking about some real money!"

In all fairness though a lot of that unaccounted for money may be for "black projects". The infamous two thousand dollar toilet seats were probably really part of the budget for secret stuff. Secret expensive stuff (like that ship they built in the eighties that was specially made to lift a sunken soviet submarine up out of three miles of ocean in the pacific with a giant football field sized steel claw to grab the whole sub at once.

I think the bulk of that money is going to the high frontier [outer space, experimental warp drives and insuperable weapons systems].

I was an uncivil servant in the uncivil service during both donkey and elephant administrations, and I can tell you the waste was the same general amount in both, but they had different waste priorities, IOW they wasted money on different things.

Why do American taxpayers put up with this?

You don't even know who you're paying to kill or why.. you just keep going to work and paying your taxes like obedient slaves.

Big defense budget = Lots of jobs

big defense budget=big gov't. I thought the right was against big gov't? oh wait a minute, they just don't want any social programs [IOW things that actually HELP regular amuuricans and not just the big wigs] attached to gov't but if it involves foreign military misadventures then it's all right.

Did u miss the part about jobs? And I don't mean just for big wigs. It's what I do and right now business is BOOMING!

National defense is one of the legitimate roles of government, playing mother hen to the unwashed masses is not.

IMHO in terms of foreign MIC misbehavior, Canada pales before its southern neighbor.
