My first reaction after seeing the topic title and the one who posted it was to say "yeah, we know."

People sure find weird songs. Maybe we should make a topic for weird songs and see who can find the weirdest one.

"The first water"????

Did you mean "the first order"?

Thoroughly daft.

Anyone into trains in the UK will near certainly know this film score really well. The film is regarded as a cult classic.

The video in the OP seems to be an out-of-the-closet rocknroll celebration of aspergers/autism.

Never seen anything like it. Train related or otherwise.

Not sure how to even react to it.

I do agree because it struck a chord with me that I was a little obessive when younger. I'm still into it now on and off.

“First water” is also correct: it’s a metaphorical reference to an obsolete classification system for diamonds (it’s common here in Britain: but I had to look it up to find why it’s used to mean “the best”) :D

I went through a train phase. And have had other obsessions like that. So it does strike a chord with me too.

But I have never seen something as in-your-face autistic as this.

Sheldon Leonard on the Big Bang Theory is famously obsessed with trains. But the show is to coy to come out and declare that character to be autistic, or aspie.

But the guy in the song not only has an autistic like obsession with trains, but they even say "he never spoke to anyone, including his parents", and "they gave him Ritalin". Obvious references to autism, and how autistics interact with the mental health system.

I guess my point is that I was expecting a song about trains (like "The Wabash Cannonball"), and what I got was a song about autism.

I had the opportunity to see the Union Pacific Big Boy stop in San Antonio a few months back. It was a lot of fun. I even woke up early in the morning just to watch it pull away from the station the next day.
