Happy Earth Day! I celebrated by going through my usual seventeen truckloads of single-use plastic.
Well, it's not my fault everything comes wrapped in plastic. Only the government can do anything about that.
Any day now, government. [sigh.....]

I'm just dropping by after a busy day of growing Om Noms and cleaning out my bedside closet.

Quote:
In mental health terms, a trigger refers to something that affects your emotional state, often significantly, by causing extreme overwhelm or distress.

A trigger affects your ability to remain present in the moment. It may bring up specific thought patterns or influence your behavior.

Triggers vary widely and could be internal or external. Specific phrases, odors, or sounds can all be triggers for people who have experienced traumatic events, such as:

- rape
- military conflict
- physical assault
- emotional abuse
- loss of a loved one

Reading or watching something about a similar traumatic event can also trigger distressing memories or flashbacks for people living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The word has seeped into more casual usage which can make it difficult to know if someone is genuinely distressed by something, especially since what’s triggering to one person won’t be triggering to another.

When I use the weird in a serious context, I’m using it in a PTSD sense, but that’s just me.

Language is tricky with words having different meanings or even changing meaning over time. It’s fascinating too. Well, it is to me.

Yeah that's exactly it. It's like the meaning shifts and before you know it it means something else completely
