monophonic sound can now be unmixed to a variable extent, using software such as sony spectralayers pro, ADX trax pro and Interactive Sound Separation Editor, the last one is freeware. there are commercial examples of the above software being used in music, including a billie holiday vocal lifted from one of her old mono 50s tracks into a new Brazilian bossa nova number.

Several of the doors in my apartment have big, old-fashioned keyholes. But when I look through them, I can't see the entire room like they can in the movies.
