Buying myself a cheap copy of the satire Candide when I was visiting Portland's largest bookstore earlier today.

That would have made me very happy too! I've only been to Powell's once, and someone stole my copy of Candide.

Had a minor breakthrough this evening while struggling with my latest artwork. I combined too many different types of pencil and pen, ended up with a real mess, (how I wish I could just 'load' an earlier version - traditional artist issues!) but adding yet another medium to the fray has surprisingly sorted it out completely, making it look better than I hoped for.
