Do you like the song?

Yes, it helped me learn to tell time.

I once heard on TV that the song was popular with teens when it first came but parents hated it and there was controversy about it encouraging kids to dance to dance to rock n' roll "all night long". Which sounds really silly compared to other songs parents have complained about because the lyrics were full of violence, sex, or drug use.

Of course I like it. It was the very first Rock n Roll song to be played on the radio. It was also the original theme song for Happy Days for the first 2 seasons. I also like the other songs that Bill Haley and The Comets recorded as well.

Yes I quite like it. It's hard to beat a good 12-bar song. I'd probably prefer a later recording with an electric bass guitar instead of a double bass, and with a more modern arrangement and recording technique. But the original isn't bad.

Its an historically important song because it helped kick off the era of rocknroll in 1954.

My parents heard the song in that year on the soundtrack of the movie "Blackboard Jungle" it was a shock to their generation (big band, glen miller, sinatra) to hear something THAT "out of control sounding" and menacing sounding.

I would have loved to have been around in 1954. The birth of Rock n Roll and the advent of London's original Routemasters both in the same year. I would have been in my glory and I would have been driving my parents crazy with that song.

I remember there being a doll of Ernie from Sesame Street that sang "Rock Around The Clock" while playing a guitar and wearing a leather jacket. It was cute.

They also had a similar doll of Elmo that sang "ABC" by the Jackson Five, but whatever.

it was one of the earliest high fidelity rock and roll recordings, recorded on an ampex 200A @ 30 inches per second, which is why the recording sounded as it did [weak in the bass and exceptionally clear in the trebles].

I know a lot of 50s songs for my age and generation. They are very similar to nursery rhymes, so they are more my speed and better than sh***y untalented pop artists of the 2000s-present anyway.
