Do you think pubs like weatherspoons should do a more wider range of lower strength beers like 2.8 percent abv?

I dunno but it might not be worth it from a business point of view. They might only stock up on what they know they'll sell

People are drinking less and less these days and many aren't even starting drinking alcohol at all. The beverage market is changing. There are a lot more pre-made mocktails and soda waters and kombuchas and things sold than ever. One of my best friends quit drinking before a nasal surgery and then decided to just not drink anymore. His beer fridge is stocked with like 8 or 10 different de-alcoholized IPA's and truly they taste like real beers. There's also a new "cocktail bar," that opened up somewhere near my twin brother's place that doesn't serve alcohol at all.. it's for non drinkers to go out and have fancy mocktails in a swanky lounge enviro without the alcohol. These are probably the types of people to go to yoga class and ride bicycles to work - that's who I picture, anyways.

The shift in binge drinking really started to change big time when BC changed it's drinking driving laws from .08 criminal limit to adding a Provincial drinking driving limit of .05.. so, it doesn't take much to get fined, 24h driving prohibition, car impounded + other penalties. 5 or so years ago I had 3 cans of beer and got a second .05 ticket a year after the first. First one cost me like $1100. Second one cost me $7000 all in. So, people don't go out and drink like they used to. Add in that literally everything else has gone up in price by multiple times.. housing, driving, groceries etc and people don't have the$ to drink like they used to if they wanted to.

So, should pub chains sell more lower alcohol content beers? Perhaps.. if things trend in that direction and people want to buy lower alcohol content beers. But it's still a maybe.. even with our laws and expenses, regular and high alcohol content beers sell at pubs just fine - but they sell to people who don't drive, or they sell just one maybe 2 beers as people seek Quality over Quantity.

Bottom line: Pubs should sell what people want to buy. If everyone in your area wants to buy the strongest alcohol content pints they can get their hands on.. then no; it would be stupid to stock the weak sauce. But if they want it, then give the people what they want.

Yeah I've heard this about people going on nights out and not drinking but I've not yet witnessed it. I don't drink that much anymore but that's not because I don't like it at the time, it's because I can't stand the hangover

^ Hangovers are definitely a negative for drinking too much alcohol.

Most people get them if they do that.
