If it's equality then why are they asking. It makes no sense to me
To me you should treat people equal without having to know what their pronouns or preferences are.
And who knows what they do with this information anyway. It makes me highly suspicious
The point of asking about "pronouns and preferences" is to know how to refer to you without offending you.
If you don't care what pronoun someone uses when referring to you, good for you, but a lot of people do care about how they are referred to.
