No, but sometimes I wish I did. There are so many autistic people at my school that it's almost like being part of an autism group, though! :D

My sister has a group of autistic friends that she had a lot of classes with in middle and high school. They ate lunch together at school and occasionally hung out after school. She and her friends have since graduated from high school and still hang out and talk on facebook.

There's an autism support group in my community that I am planning on going to. It only meets once a month though so I've only been one time since I was diagnosed. I'm hoping to meet others on the spectrum there :)

No. There is a very good active group in another part of the county but I fall outside the boundry, its a great pity. That said I am not totally convinced that I would feel any more relaxed around other aspies, people are people.

I tried it, but it seems I am equally as incapable of "fitting in" and achieving any kind of social group dynamic with autistics as I am with neurotypicals. I observed others in the group start making friends, pairing off, forming cliques, etc. But I was never a part of their social structure. There seems little point in a social group for me.

I'm going to try my local group two weeks from now. I have limited RL experience with other Aspies but with the few I have met, I don't have to work at normal with. I can let my guard down. That alone is worth a lot to me. They have been non-judgemental and deal with me the way I want to be dealt with - logically, honestly, and directly. There has been no emotional drama. Plus being autistic gives us something fundamental in common to start with. I'm sure there are downsides too but the upsides are encouraging. I guess I will find out soon.

I used to go to a weekly club for young people with special needs, most of whom were on the spectrum like me. I didn't really befriend anybody there because most of them were boys who had different interests from me. Nevertheless, it was pretty cool as we did activities such as cooking, arts and crafts, meals out, bowling, cinema visits etc.
Last summer we even went on a day trip to Llandudno (coastal town in Wales, popular with tourists). I found it a bit commercialised and tacky in parts, but it was still a good experience.
I stopped going about a few months ago, because I was busy with my exams, and I also felt ready to move on - I'm off to uni soon.
