I found this article in psychologytoday magazine.

www.psychologytoday.com/blog/dance-psyc ... ystemizing

It explores the concept of systemizing and empathy whilst observing the dance styles of the contestants on strictly come dancing, with particular relevance to Anne Widdecombe (former British MP) and Felicity Kendal (Actor)

It made me think how systems are invaluable tools for many people in the spectrum, and how they can be invaluable in surviving the social world.

The saying the whole world is a stage is very apt here. As is the metaphor of dance, with respect to the 'dance of life' being used to describe the movement and expression of ourselves.

Let me know what you think.

I was skeptical, but that was surprisingly interesting. :) Cheers.

Meh. I don't really believe the empathizing/systemizing idea anyway, it's sloppy science.

this is an interesting article. I dont think it applies to me though, I get a low score in both empathising and systemising.

I neither count steps and make dance moves in order, or mirror my partner. I just flail my arms and legs about in a way that I hope looks ok.

hi Zen mistress

I would be very keen to see that test
to check one's empathizing /
systemizing abilities. Is it
possible you could post the link for
it on this thread so myself and others
could have a go?

Wishing you well from London.

It's a nice, but I'll go with the "one dimensional perspective" criticism of the A/S theory:

It's the tale of the actor and the MP dancing.
What if the actor that looks so natural is just a better systemiser than the MP?
What if the MP dancing technique effectively surpasses the actors one?
Who would be a better systemiser if the competition would be about a political negotiation?

Now, after all these questions, is it more about the context than the characters? How can you compare one specific context (a competition) to a complete life?
