http://www.readingsoft.com/

Here's an online speed reading test.
Under Instructions is a "Start" button; once you click this, begin reading. It will show you your score after you click "Done" at the bottom of the page. Then click the hyperlinked "comprehension test" to test your comprehension.

I got 450 wpm, and 9/11 questions correct on the test.

I'm curious to see how others score.

278 WPM

Comprehension of 11/11

I didn't expect to be super fast, but that's mildly better than average.

Cool test, thanks JM. 8)

Not to mention you have much better comprehension than average.

I got 237 wpm, 8/11 for comprehension.

I'm a very slow reader for the amount that I read and for being hyperlexic as a child. This is due to my OCD. I read extra slowly, because, if I don't understand one part, I will have to re-read the sentence/paragraph again. I'm also slowed due to my "thinking in pictures," because every part creates an image. But I have a very good memory of what I read (and photographic memory of where the information is in the book), so I don't mind sacrificing speed for retention.

The text didn't interest me. Clicked the 'start' button...started reading...reading...I don't remember anything I just read! Blah!
If something doesn't interest me, I'll read slowly, having to reread the same thing many times over and then I'll get distracted by a thought.
If something is semi-interesting, I read at normal speed. (? I don't know what's normal speed ?)
If something interests me, I read at normal speed probaby...but faster than semi-interesting...until I pause to pursue the trails of thought it would most likely inspire. I would get very exited about the thoughts and quit the reading and go off walking around fast in circles, or better, go off for a walk if possible. When I've contemplated the interesting stuff enough, I might continue reading, or I might have gotten some idea of something else to do after all that

258

10/11

The text was very simple and the questions could all be answered with some logical deduction (the text was obviously geared towards making you buy their computer software.) I think with a different text all our scores will be much different.

338 WPM

I read quickly but I still have trouble. My eyes keep darting ahead.

Wow! Same! :o That's another thing that slows me down- I just naturally glance ahead and skim other sections. Same when I'm taking a test- I'm all over the place.

I too frequently read ahead accidentally, but I did not on this. Most days I read really slowly, on account of my dyslexia, but sometimes I can read quickly.

My WPM: 165
10/11 questions correct

At least I can usually remember what I read well. :)

344 wpm, but only 6/11 answers correct. Ouch! This is the aging brain, folks. In my defense, I'll state that the text did not interest me at all.

713 wpm and 11/11. I took a speed reading course years ago to be fair. I didn't think I was speed-reading though.

WPM = 235 (although I kinda cheated)
64% comprehension

I expected my WPM to be lower, but my comprehension to be much higher than that. I'm ALWAYS the last one to finish reading something in class, but I don't usually understand it better unless I already know a lot about the topic.
