So, I went. . . It was a group thing which I knew nothing about. They just tested our spelling and writing skills. The spelling was easy but the 'free writing' task was difficult. We had five minutes to write whatever we wanted, but I only managed two lines, even though it was something I knew loads about. . . Then I had to go in for a Exam Concession/ speaking assessment which I was rubbish at, I was hardly able to speak which may have been due to my social awkwardness/nerves rather than being in-articulate. It all seemed to be a bit un-organised, and it seemed as though the assessors didn't care, they were complaining about how they wanted to go home and didnt want to be there.

I actually feel a bit rubbish because it wasn't how I expected it. It was a shambles :(

Hi Shambles! Welcome to Wrong Planet! Check out the interesting and helpful articles and forums here. There is nothing to be upset or afraid about. It was a great relief to me when I finally found out why I am so different from most people. Not knowing had been very stressful. Once you know where you stand, you and your psych doc will able to formulate how to deal with your issues. That will help you deal with this.

Although I am self diagnosed (online tests, research, relative did research and says I am Aspie, too), there is no question in my mind that I have Asperger's Syndrome. I meet too many of the criteria to be other wise. I also meet the criteria for Avoident Personality Disorder (AvPD), as I have almost every trait of that, and Executive Function Disorder (EFD). I always been very disorganized.

That's the thing with the Autism/Asperger's spectrum. There are a number of other conditions that can be comorbid with it. Like we really need more complication in our lives.

Don't let this get you down, though, and remember, you are among friends here at WP! :D

If it's a test to see what you are like as a person then nothing is expected of you at all. You just need to be there and be tested and then they'll tell you (then or later) what conclusions they come to about what you're like as a person. However, only you yourself can decide if their conclusions make sense to you and if you agree with them.

Thank-you :) ... I guess I'm feeling a little better now. Seeing as these tests will help me in the long-run.

Sorry to hear it didn't go so well. :(

What exactly did they say to you afterwards? Did they divide you into groups at the end and say, "You lot are autistic, the others aren't?" What were they testing for when they did the reading/writing test? Was this general screening thing within school or work, or did you travel somewhere having had a referal?

Don't worry about it. A lot of the assessments for AS are based on seeing how you cope with a particular task rather than the outcome of that task. For example, doing it as a group - did you chat and interact with others in a typical way while you were there? or free writing - were you able to do it naturally in a free way or did you struggle to come up with anything at all? (free writing issues are indicative of executive function problems) Does that make sense?

It was at my college. It was done under examination conditions so I didn't have to interact with anyone. I went in today and they said they 'forgot' to do the second part of the reading test yesterday, which I had to do this afternoon. It was like this comprehension thing, where I had to circle the answers relative to the given texts, and I had forty-five minutes to do so. . . some of those tasks were quite difficult.

They only seemed to be testing the intellectual abilities and didn't observe any social aspects. . . I'm quite scared now, seeing as I don't have problems with writing itself, I just have trouble completing tasks to the given time . . . They didn't even tell us when our results would arrive, it was atrociously un-organised. D:
