And when does an obsession become a fixation?

I've had this love for Routemasters, my whole life. I was obsessed with them, when I was in College, because my course wasn't challenging enough for me. That obsession gave way to Austin Powers, in 1997. I was between obsessions, between 2004 and late 2005. I became obsessed with Routemasters before last Christmas, again. I've been obsessed with them, for about a year, now. I guess that I could say that I'm fixated. How long do you have to be obsessed with something, before that obsession becomes a fixation? What's the difference between an obsession and a fixation?

to me the difference would be maybe time? like when referring to a fixation....its more like ur staring at something for a few minutes....becoming 'fixated' etc...

whereas an obsession seems more something u would roll over in ur mind and it would be a lengthy time spanning occurance? ie. could be years..

or maybe....fixation could be more u r paralysed by the event....whereas with obsession u r thinking about it...so maybe the difference could be ur personal reaction etc.

Not much difference at all, as far as I can see.

I agree with ping-machine. There is no difference.

I am fixated, you are infatuated, they are obsessed.

I think it's all a matter of perspective. :)
