8O It has been scheduled since early September, so I kind of forgot about it since it was so far away. But it is now only 32 days away. There are actually 3 more appointments, but the first one is in a month, the second is a week later, and the third is 2-3 weeks after that to discuss the results.

And I have been kind of putting this off, but I really need to tell my boss I need time off for those appointments soon so I won't end up screwing myself over and having to reschedule them way off in the future. I don't really want to tell him what it's for, but I'm sure he will want to know. How do I bring this up? It's also a problem because I'm pretty sure the appointments will take several hours, so I'll miss almost half of my normal work time on those days at least. And since this is apparently one of the busiest times of the year for this business, I can't see them being totally fine with it.

You tell your boss you have a doctor's appointment for those days. You need not say anything else, since it's none of their business, at this point.

Give your boss lots of notice by telling him as soon as you can. In my experience they don't like it when you leave things to the last minute. Write down the dates and times for them and ask if it would be ok to apply for leave for those days at those times. Just say it's a medical appointment. They may work something out such as changing the times for your lunch hour for that day or finishing earlier or starting later depending on the times.
Remind them when it gets closer just in case they forget.
Good luck! I'm sure it'll be fine.

lie. say it's the dentist because you have a cavity or something like that.

what kind of work do you do and when are the appointments? can't you schedule one around the other?

^ The only thing would be if your boss requests a medical certificate. If you're seeing a psychologist that will be written on the certificate so it's probably best not to lie.

Your boss is legally constrained from asking you in too much depth.

You can say you are seeing specialists about some neurological issues your doctor noticed. Important to do, but unlikely to result in any change that will impact work.

Yes, Like the other posters said, you don't need to give your boss the details. Just say that you have important doctor's appointments and these are the dates the doctor gave you and they can't be changed. Your boss should respect that. But like another poster said, tell your boss right away. He will appreciate a month's notice especially if he needs to find someone to cover your shift and it will go much better than if you wait.

Thanks for the suggestions. I just told him, and he said it will be fine. I don't know why I always think things are going to go horribly wrong. Now I feel kinda silly.

Now I have the evaluation itself to be nervous about, though. Yay.
