For people who are living away by themselves or who anybody who has thoughts on this - how often do you socialise? Do all people living away likely feel isolated and how do you cope? What are some good ways to fit into a new town/city?

It's possible I'd be able to live away and I'm a quiet person who likes their own space, but I keep thinking how isolating it could be long term.

I think just getting out to shops occasionally so you have to interact with people is probably good. Personally, the more I stay inside the house, the harder it gets to leave. It's like exercising to maintain yourself at a certain fitness level.

I live alone and love it. No one to drive me crazy, argue with me, shower me with their nonsense that could trigger a bad episode of bipolar mania, etc.

When I see people in the hallways, streets or store I say hi. That's about the extent of my socializing. Any more than that and I'll burst into flames.

Potential girlfriends or boyfriends: online dating - though it sucks that it’s hard to tell if you have chemistry until you’re in person.

Meet up groups: I go to a board game one. I don’t chit chat, but I do play games with other people. I’m seeing a behavioral therapist, so might become more social there.

Political meetings: I belong to the DSA and sometimes go to meetings. There’s how I met a girl I have interests in common with. Unsure if she considers me an acquaintance or a friend- but, I think she’s a friend.
