AS VS HFA

I recently took a SPED test, which I did very well on.
Afterwards, I was reading the report they gave my parents, and part of it said they were changing my diagnosis from AS to High Functioning Autism. So what does this mean?
I posted this on zomgaspies and the consensus there was that it was the same, except HFA has language delays.

To me the only main difference between HFA and AS is that people who have HFA suffer from language delays where people with AS don't. Some people argue that HFA and AS are the same thing. I don't know why they might change your diagnoses unless you should some kind of language delay. But I could be wrong.

It really depends on the institution that diagnosed you, and how they diagnose people.

They're effectively the same thing: people with AS can have early language delays under certain diagnostic criteria; the outcome between the two isn't that much different (HFA isn't as good), and the symptoms are the same (severity between the two can differ if the institution that diagnosed you prefers HFA to be lower down on the spectrum). But, some people like using the HFA label to give those with "severe" AS a unique label as this will allow better government services with the "autism" label.

I am waiting for the playoffs, we will see.

The main difference in early childhood is language delays but I think the actual difference could be that Aspergers has no effect on IQ while HFA is considered to have some effect.

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable about the differences could confirm/deny?

I think they are the same while autism includes significant language delay and developmental delay-what they call self-help skills. My son is more verbal now but he still relies on visual cues and written language more.

Actually, Asperger's is usually said to require an IQ of around 70, or anything above that.

So does HFA (in the technical sense where IQ is the measuring point, often people use other measuring points though or else nearly all autistic people would be considered HFA).

So, both of them are anything from around 70 and above. As in, neither is supposed to "affect IQ" that much, or at least not one more than the other.
