I got a comment on my picture thing saying that just because i smile in pictures, or look the way i look, i cant be autistic, or severe as i did say i was growing up... Now can somebody explain what autism really looks like in a picture?

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Autism has a look? Pssh. If we'd known this bit of amazing information all along, it could have saved so many of us the drudgery of those darn evaluation thingies.

If autism were avble to be told by just looking... neurology would be sooooo much cheaper...

What I've noticed about pictures is that some people you can tell they're probably autistic or neurologically atypical in some of their pictures (mostly from postures and expressions, sometimes from activities). But that's some people. One thing you can't tell from pictures is that someone is absolutely not autistic, that's just ridiculous.

Yes... like me, in pictures i obviously have a neurological degenerative condition since you can obviously see from years ago to now i look totally different... my spine tells you the most...

Age,
don't let her bother, about this-the lady in question is no inspector who can say who is autistic and who isn't,especially based on a photograph, she assumes she has this right because she has LFA,she has no more right or skill than any other autistic at diagnosing through photographs,it's impossible,if it was a way of diagnosing, specialists all over the world would be using it right now.

What she is probably going on about,is looking for stereotypical things like a tranced look, handflapping, rocking, lining up things...
..she hates other people being 'obvious autistic' [just look how nasty she is to anbuend as well], she wants every bit of sympathy to herself, and doesn't want any other 'obvious autistics' sharing their lives,as that means she isn't the only one getting notice.

richardbenson,
LFA doesn't have a specific 'look',on photos,LFAers can look NT like on them, depending on when the photo was took, environment etc.

Oh,and just thought would add,the person who was awful to Age hates aspies and high functioners, apparently they take up all the support and funding away from the 'real autistics'.

Clearly you're not Autistic. If I've learned anything from movies or TV shows, all autistics have a spaced out look in their eyes, messy hair, wear sweatpants, and never change the blank, serious expression on their face. They're also gifted pianists, builders of legos, and can count the number of individual noodles in a speghetti dinner in less than a second.

So obviously your ability to smile, talk to other humans, and understand the sarcasm in my post definitely means you can't be autistic. TV talk shows wouldn't be anything less than 100% accurate, would they?

You'd be surprised how many people wouldn't think I have AS just by the way I look.

I know. Most people are surprised when they learn both of my children have autism. They say things like, "She doesn't act autistic." I'm so tempted to ask how they think people with autism act.
