Chamoisee and I are expecting a Son soon around December 20th,
so far we like the name Ash,
most other names we thought of we couldn't agree on, they was too common or reminded us of others we found disagreeable or the like or simply did not sound right to us,
so out of curiosity, any ideas for names?
Ash seems to be set as a first name but it is not in stone, the middle name is not thought of yet,
and my last name starts with an "S".

I like the idea of Ash (Chamoisee's last name) (your last name-s) assuming Chanoisee's last name doesn't start with an S. I personally think that with a short first name, a second name with more than one syabol sounds better.

Heh. My last name is Leaf, so it would be Ash Leaf Spicer.....

I would really like for the first name to be botanical, but had an awfully hard time coming up with anything suitable (except for Ash) because most of the good botanical names are more suited to a girl.

Aspen- too much like Aspen, Colorado
Birch- sounds abrupt
Oak- also too abrupt and hard sounding
Cedar- Ok if we were hippies, but we aren't anymore...Cedar Spicer? Bleh...

I tried a google search for botanical names but most of them were feminine and there wasn't a large array of usable results.

Wouldn't Ashley/Ashleigh be fitting?

That would be fine too, especially the proper Latin names, (i.e. Salix, for willow). But I haven't been happy with any that I've thought of so far. Rowan might work....

There was a member of Wrongplanet who was recently banned by the name of Ashley, so it is a boy's name.

I know a father and daughter pair both called Ashley. It is both a boy's and a girl's name.

Various ethnic names are also good. Maybe something Latin based? There should probably be at least something as a good name in another language.

As for me, I'm partial to either Hebrew (many of my character's names in fictional settings) or Japanese or Hawaiian names. :)
