I look up to the sky
and now the world is mine
I've known it all my life
I made it, I made it!
I used to dream about, the life I’m living now
I know that there's no doubt.
I made it, I made it!

part of my favorite song:

Your construction
Smells of corruption
I manipulate, to recreate
This air, to ground saga
Gotta launder, my karma

It's just that there was I
pretending I was tied to the kitchen sink,
and I thought "This Dove's so kind to my hands,
I'm never gonna change to a different brand."

And on a different day,
We found a small car and drove it away
and you said "Your life's too good to be true.
I think I'll ruin it for you."

(Dream Kitchen -- Frazier Chorus)

The "I think I'm fixin' to die" rag-

Well come on all of you big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
Got himself in a terrible jam,
Way down yonder in Afganistan.
Put down your books, pick up a gun,
This ain't gonna be a whole lot of fun.
And it's one, two three, what are we fighting for?
Don't ask me I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Afganistan!
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates-
Well, there ain't no time to wonder why-
Whoppee! We're all gonna die!
Well come on wall street don't be slow,
Why, man, this is war a-go-go!
Plenty good money to be made,
Supplying the Army with the tools of the trade.
Just hope and pray when they drop the bomb,
They drop it on Osama Bin Ladin!
And it's one, two three, what are we fighting for?
Don't ask me I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Afganistan!
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates-
Well, there ain't no time to wonder why-
Whoopee! We're all gonna die!
Well come on generals, let's move fast,
Your big chance is here at last!
You can get all of those taliban,
'Cause the only good taliban is one that's dead.
And you know that peace can only be won,
When we blow them all to kingdom come.
And it's one, two three, what are we fighting for?
Don't ask me I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Afganistan!
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates-
Well, there ain't no time to wonder why-
Whoopee! We're all gonna die!
Come on mothers throughout the land,
Pack your boys off to Afganistan.
Come on fathers don't hesitate,
To send your sons off before it's too late,
Be the first one on your block
To have your boy come home in a box.
And it's one, two three, what are we fighting for?
Don't ask me I don't give a damn,
Next stop is Afganistan!
And it's five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates-
Well, there ain't no time to wonder why-
Whoopee! We're all gonna die!

I got my head, but my head is unraveling
Can't keep control, can't keep track of where it's travelling
I got my heart, but my heart's no good
And you're the only one that's understood

I come along, but I don't know where you're taking me
I shouldn't go, but you're wrenching, dragging, shaking me
Turn off the sun, pull the stars from the sky
The more I give to you the more I die

And I want you

You are the perfect drug

You make me hard when I'm all soft inside
I'll see the truth when I'm all stupid-eyed
The arrow goes straight through my heart
Without you everything just falls apart

My blood wants to say hello to you
My feelings want the deadly side of you
My soul is so afraid to realize
How very little good is left of me

And I want you

You are the perfect drug

Without you, without you everything falls apart
Without you, it's not as much fun to pick up the pieces

JETHRO TULL

"Back-Door Angels"

In and out of the front door, ran twelve back-door angels.
Their hair was a golden-brown ---
they didn't see me wink my eye.
`Tis said they put we men to sleep with just a whisper,
And touch the heads of dying dogs --- and make them linger.
They carry their candles high --- and they light the dark hours.
And sweep all the country clean with pressed and scented wild-flowers.
They grow all their roses red, and paint our skies blue ---
drop one penny in every second bowl ---
make half the beggars lose,
why do the faithful have such a will to believe in something?
And call it the name they choose,
having chosen nothing.
Think I'll sit down and invent some fool ---
some Grand Court Jester.
And next time the die is cast, he'll throw a six or two.
In and out of the back-door, ran one front-door angel,
Her hair was a golden-brown ---
she smiled and I think she winked her eye.

MICHELLE SHOCKED

God is a real-estate developer,
with offices round the nation.
They say someday he'll liquidate his holdings up on high ...
I say it's all speculation.

He may be an absentee landlord --
This may be a low-rent universe.
Well, the roof may need repair, but at least the floor is there,
And the rent is not due till the 1st.

So save one last dance for the Savior,
when that final Hail Mary is said.
Life is a dance-hall -- that's why we've got all
those little angels dancing round with pinheads.

The Lord Almighty Ltd. and his chosen elect
sit on the Up On High development board,
quoting the Bible as they hoard
The Good Book's got a new look, I suspect.

So save one last dance........etc.

"A Boy Named Sue"

My daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
Now, I don't blame him 'cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me "Sue."

Well, he must o' thought that is quite a joke
And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk,
It seems I had to fight my whole life through.
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue."

Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean,
My fist got hard and my wits got keen,
I'd roam from town to town to hide my shame.
But I made a vow to the moon and stars
That I'd search the honky-tonks and bars
And kill that man who gave me that awful name.

Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry,
I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew.
At an old saloon on a street of mud,
There at a table, dealing stud,
Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me "Sue."

Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad
From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had,
And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye.
He was big and bent and gray and old,
And I looked at him and my blood ran cold
And I said: "My name is 'Sue!' How do you do!
Now you're gonna die!!"

Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down, but to my surprise,
He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear.
But I busted a chair right across his teeth
And we crashed through the wall and into the street
Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer.

I tell ya, I've fought tougher men
But I really can't remember when,
He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile.
I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss,
He went for his gun and I pulled mine first,
He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile.

And he said: "Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along.
So I give ya that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make you strong."

He said: "Now you just fought one hell of a fight
And I know you hate me, and you got the right
To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do.
But ya ought to thank me, before I die,
For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye
Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you "Sue.'"

I got all choked up and I threw down my gun
And I called him my pa, and he called me his son,
And I came away with a different point of view.
And I think about him, now and then,
Every time I try and every time I win,
And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him....

Bill or George! Any damned thing but Sue! I still hate that name!

JETHRO TULL
"We Used To Know lyrics"

Whenever I get to feel this way,
try to find new words to say,
I think about the bad old days
we used to know.

Nights of winter turn me cold --
fears of dying, getting old.
We ran the race and the race was won
by running slowly.

Could be soon we'll cease to sound,
slowly upstairs, faster down.
Then to revisit stony grounds,
we used to know.

Remembering mornings, shillings spent,
made no sense to leave the bed.
The bad old days they came and went
giving way to fruitful years.

Saving up the birds in hand
while in a bush the others land.
Take what we can before the man
says it's time to go.

Each to his own way I'll go mine.
Best of luck with what you find.
But for your own sake remember times
we used to know.

PONTIAC, Lyle Lovett

I park my Pontiac down the hill out in back
Late every afternoon, with a Coke and a cigarette.
And all of the neighbors there, they see a nice old man.

The girl there across the street sits on the front porch swing
She never realized, though I told her with my eyes,
That back in the second war, I killed twenty German boys
with my own two hands....

The woman inside my house, she won't stop talking.
She never says a thing, but she just keeps talking.
And I might just leave her still ... after the sun goes down,
and I smoke this cigarette.....

(ha, fooled ya -- you thought another funny one was coming! Next Lyle Lovett will be funny)

"Space Oddity"

Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills
and put your helmet on

Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown,
engines on
Check ignition
and may God's love be with you

[spoken]
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff

This is Ground Control
to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule
if you dare

This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating
in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

Though I'm past
one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much
she knows

Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead,
there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you....

Here am I floating
round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do.

The Beta Band-Dry the Rain (something I've been listening to over and over for the last few days-very nice song musically)

This is the definition of my life
Lying in bed in the sunlight
Choking on the vitamin tablet
The doctor gave in the hope of saving me
In the hope of saving me

Walked in the corner of the room
A junk yard fool with eyes of gloom
I asked him time again
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain the rain
The rain the rain the rain now

Dusty brown boots in the corner
By the ironing board
Spray on dust is the greatest thing
Sure is the greatest thing
Since the last since the last

Walked in the corner of the room
A junk yard fool with eyes of gloom
I asked him time again
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain the rain
The rain the rain the rain now

I asked him time again
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
Take me in and dry the rain
The rain the rain the rain now

If there's something inside that you wanna say
Say it out loud it'll be okay
I will be your light
I will be your light
I will be your light
I will be your light

If there's something inside that you wanna say
Say it out loud it'll be okay
I will be your light
I will be your light
I will be your light
I will be your light

I Need Love, yeah
I Need Love

If there's something inside that you wanna say
Say it out loud it'll be okay
I will be your light
I will be your light
I will be your light
I will be your light

If there's something inside that you wanna say
Say it out loud it'll be okay
I will be your light
I will be your light
I will be your light
I will be your light

I Need Love
I Need Love

OK, I said I'd post a funny Lyle Lovett song, but it's too long. Click here on the off chance you want to read one.

So something inspirational (to me, anyway):

HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW
Why should I feel discouraged? Why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart feel lonely, and long for my heavenly home?
When Jesus is my portion ... a constant friend is He.
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Let not your heart be troubled, His tender voice I hear,
And trusting in His goodness, I lose my doubts and my fears.
Though by the path He leads me, but one step I may see,
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free, for
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Now the story's played out like this
Just like a paperback novel
Let's rewrite an ending that fits
Instead of a Hollywood horror

- "Someday" by Nickelback

<3 Someday

(part of) Santa Monica by Theory of a Deadman
-----
She fills my bed with gasoline
You think I wouldn't notice
Her mind's made up
Her love is gone
I think someone's trying to show us a sign
That even if we thought it would last
The moment would pass
My bones will break and my heart would give
Oh, it hurts to live

And I remember the day when you left for Santa Monica
You left me to remain with all your excuses for everything
And I remember the time when you left for Santa Monica
And I remember the day you told me it's over

It hurts to breathe
Well every time that you're not next to me
Her mind's made up
The girl is gone
And now I'm forced to see
I think I'm on my way
Oh, it hurts to live today
Oh and she says "Don't you wish you were dead like me?"

"Superman" - Five for Fighting

I can't stand to fly, I'm not that naive
I'm just out to find the better part of me
I'm more than a bird, I'm nore than a plane
More than some pretty face beside a train
And it's not easy to be me

I wish that I could cry, fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie 'bout a home I'll never see
It may sound absurd, but don't be naive
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed, but won't you concede
Even heroes have the right to dream
And it's not easy to be me

Up up and away, away from me
And it's alright, you can all sleep sound tonight
I'm not crazy or anything

I can't stand to fly, I'm not that naive
Men weren't meant to ride with clouds between their knees
I'm only a man in a silly red sheet
Diggin' for Kryptonite on this one-way street
I'm only a man in a funny red sheet
Looking for special things inside of me

Inside of me (x4)

I'm only a man in a funny red sheet
I'm only a man looking for a dream
I'm only a man in a funny red sheet
And it's not easy to... be...
It's not easy to be... me...
