The Miracle on Ice, when the U.S. beat the Soviet Union in 1980.

The U.S. boycott of the Moscow Olympics that same year

The Soviet Union and its satellite countries, with the exception of Romania and Yugoslavia, did the same in 1984.

(It wouldn't be until 1992 when all eligible countries competed again).
