The four years of hell that was high school for me and others who didn't fit in well. Many of my peers were hipster-wannabes, punk-rocker types, and/or types who loved rejecting others who were different.

Like some fellow misfits, I was desperate to fit in, but the majority of my peers did not like desperate types, so I was an anonymity, an outsider.

However, the high school counselor helped me fit in and make some friends during the second half of my high school years. He was also openly gay, so he also helped come to the realization that LGBT people are no different from straight people so to him I'll forever be grateful.
