When I was seven I just wanted to be retired and left alone to do as I pleased. I am now retired and left alone to do as I please. :D

I wanted to be a video game designer (though the current Video Game Industry is more or less screwed in some ways), then I wanted to be a Dentist (ironic considering I haven't exactly been taking care of my teeth proper)

Now... I don't know... and the real world is a big, scary place

I'm only 22 and I only have 40-something years to decide before I hit the "can no longer work" stage in life...

Funny to think this thread started when most current contributor was a kid!

First, a fire woman (because I wanted to be able to go down a slide quite often, as depicted in children's book).

Then, an an egyptologist as codes and signs and runes and mystery spoke to me. Hidden messages and discovering what they meant. I was actually convinced in an earnest (if naïve) way that I was going to be an egyptologist.

After a few years, I was just as convinced that I would become a journalist.

Then I lost track. Having lost track may actually have lasted long into my psychology studies, who knows? I now feel that I am doing exactly the right thing, and I did end up working with the meaning of communication, albeit in a different way. I work to establish and develop communication between people with communication challenges (e.g. ASD/autistic people, people with PMLD, LD/intellectual disabilities and dementia ) and their social surroundings.

I wanted to be a computer game programmer, had my heart on DigiPen for a college. Then I discovered I couldn't code for s**t, but I could find mistakes others made in the in their code. That was when I was a young teenager.

Now days, I do tech support.

I wanted to be a cartoonist, and everyone and their grandmother knew it. I have had an intense love and natural ability to draw cartoons for as long as I can remember.

Too bad that when you're a little kid you don't know how much the world will change by the time you're an adult. And that you'll be lucky there's even a world left. :(

I wanted to be a volcano. Sure I knew the practicalities, but I still wanted it.

I wanted to be nothing but a......kid.

Seriously, I don't ever recall wanting to aspire to any grown up profession, vocation or avocation. My interior world, imagination, exploration and my time outside in the woods and immersed in nature were all perfection. Running, jumping, pretending, talking to the animals, the trees and the wind. I couldn't imagine wanting anything to change.

^ Much like you I don't recall aspiring to be anything in particular when I was young. Once I got a bit older I liked the idea of being an astronaut, jet fighter pilot, and race car/motorcycle driver. Never had the motivation or self confidence to strive for those sorts of goals.
