We got some good taste on this thread
Since people are including metal and I kept my list strictly rock, my top metal bands would be:
Iron Maiden
Black Sabbath
Judas Priest
Dio/Rainbow
Rhapsody of Fire
Symphony X
Kamelot
Mastodon
Meshuggah
Katatonia
Porcupine Tree (if you consider them metal and not rock)
Sunn O)))
Tool
Opeth
Danzig
Angra
Rage Against The Machine
Helloween
System of a Down
As I Lay Dying
All That Remains
Dethklok
I wanted to trim it down to 10 but I failed
Dare I say, a fellow Sunn worshipper?
I used to be a HUGE fan of Katatonia. Their last couple of albums really fell short for me though, sadly. "Fall of Hearts" was incredible. I don't know what happened with the last two
SUNN woot. I so love drone and doom metal. I don't hang around metal forums anymore so it's not too often I run into other Sunn fans. If you haven't listened to it, I am legally obligated to recommend
Soused, Sunn's collaboration album they did with American-British avante garde singer Scott Walker. It's more Scott than Sunn, but it's a great album. And one of the most astronomically improbable collabs that I wanted that I never ever thought would happen lol
I didn't keep up with Katatonia (or most other bands now that I think about it). I think Night Is The New Day was my last album I got by them. They're one of those bands that just perfectly captured my experience with depression.
