Should I write the kind of story I wouldn't read?

So to elaborate. I tried it out and it turns out, I'm really good at writing horror. I can invoke deep sense of fear and anxiety out of my readers, a drawing of one of my creations actually caused someone to run away screaming. So I am not only able to pull it off, but do so far better then most.

Unfortunately I hate horror stories. I dont like horror movies, I dont play horror games, and I dont read horror books. It is a genre that while I respect and appreciate its artistic value, I personally am not fond of it.

So I'm in a wierd place. Is it really a good idea to write a story in a genre that you'd personal pass up if you saw it reguardless of the quality

Al Pacino say he never watches his own movies, I've heard the same thing of other actors, so whatever

Your unfamiliarity is what makes your stories unique.

Anyone who has watched/read a lot of a given genre will unknowingly fall into cliches and rehash old plots, scenes and phrases.

in short... yes.

Hey, I'm impressed. 8)
If you're good, well, then, you're good.
Enjoy it and go with what the folks above have said.
