Yes.

I love Jesus and Mary Chain. They are in the states right now.

There is a large amount of crossover between shoegaze/space rock/dream pop/psych/post rock/kraut/drone/noise/ethereal.

I call the stuff like it 'stare at the wall music':D

I tend to associate shoegaze with the period. It is also an attitude toward music and performance that is often misunderstood. The suffix 'gaze is being added on everything nowadays, not that it bothers me.

I love Shoegazer. Catherine Wheel is one of my all time favorite bands and biggest influences. Slow Dive is wonderful too. So dreamy, like a rainy day.

I agree on the dreams of shoegazing

Slint and Mogwai i'd consider Math Rock. Godspeed! is experimental. I'm on the fence with both Oceansize and Nine Black Alps onto whether they're shoegazing or are influenced by Shoegazing.

interesting. Must say that Catherine Wheel is one of my favorites too. Satisfies some basic comforting need. I really like the Silversun Pickups, too. Will have to study the rest.

I only recently discovered that My Bloody Valentine have re-formed and are touring! Did everyone else know this? I have been seriously out of the loop. Sadly they won't be coming up to the Pacific Northwest where I live, and I can't afford to travel much this year.

At least there is the new album in the works supposedly - I can look forward to that. I seriously thought it would never happen (either them re-forming or making another album.) I can't wait to hear what they've come up with.

M83? Really? They're too 'lush' to fit my definition of shoegaze...

like "lush" the word or "Lush" the band?
because the latter is a shoegazing band.

Some Shoegaze type stuff that I've been listening to recently is by 28 Degrees Taurus, Airiel, Bitcrush, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Kinski. The Boris/Michio Kurihara 'Rainbow' CDalso has some good Shoegaze stuff on it, though that CD really isn't proper shoegaze.

Also FWIW, people who like shoegaze would do well to find a copy of Les Rallizes Denudes ' Heavier Than A Death In The Family' which is proto-shoegaze from circa 1972.

There was one track on Slowdive's Souvlaki album I used to play over and over (Souvlaki Space Station maybe?) That Rachel Goswell was pretty hot as well.

You'd love Silversun Pickups. They remind me of an American Slowdive except far more overdriven.

I first heard the expression 'Shoe-gazer" on Echoes when they played music
by Japancakes and Ulrich Schnauss.
