If it's sci-fi/fantasy you're into, give Murder in Rock & Roll Heaven by Robin Ray a try.

If you like Hitchhiker’s, have a look at books by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman as I think they will have much appeal to you. In fact, they actually wrote a book together, Good Omens, which would be an ideal introduction to the writing styles of both men.
