Roughly two years ago a girl started hanging out with the group at lunch. I found her ugly thought she had an annoying voice; my views on her only decreased when I found out she was put in an institution after attempting suicide. I hardly ever saw her or gave her a second thought after that. A few months ago she came back to school and was seated next to me in English. She would occaisonally try and strike up a conversation, and usually fail at it. But one day, she said something that interested me and we got into a full blown conversation and we spoke a lot more after that. We started dating yesterday afternoon.
Something similar happened to my mother too. She used to swear up and down that she would never get married or date a younger man. She is now engaged to a younger man.

That isn't irony, that's an epiphany: the sudden realization that things are rather different than how you first assumed. I hope things go well for you both.

Agreed. Good for you that you have seen the light and that you have many happy times together
