When asked to "bring something to eat" to a work-related picnic... what would you bring?
Should it be shareable? :|

I always went for the safe option, big share-sized bags of crisps.

Is there anyone you can ask: "Am I meant to bring something for me to eat or something to contribute to what everyone's going to eat?" Because it does seem a bit unspecific.

If you can't get some clarification, perhaps opt for a little bit of both -- bring something for yourself and also some kind of side dish or family size bag of something that could be either/or -- either you could eat some of that yourself too, or it could be shared out to other people if it turns out to be an everyone-share event.

With both, you can hedge your bets about what kind of picnic it is.

I would suggest you bring cupcakes.

You can't go wrong with:

Fried chicken, potato salad, corn-on-a-cob, pasta salad, macaroni and cheese.

Tasty :D ... but as I need to travel about 2 hours in a train and on foot to get there... I'd be worried they'll either get eaten or squashed

I don't usually have contact with them, so don't know anyone I could ask. Haven't even ever met most of them.
I like the big bag of crisps idea, as I could just eat a big bag of crisps if people were not sharing :-S and something else for me, that wouldn't be shared.
Added bonus of crisps is that they're low weight and don't need to be in a bowl that needs to be collected after (so I could potentially disappear without having to be noticed collecting containers and packing my bag)
Thank you!!
