If someone tells you about one of their friends, and you happen to notice them in a way you never thought you would (i.e., an online service,) do you recognize them?

Sorry I don't understand the question... Do you mean would I recognise someone in real life from a description of that person on the internet?

I mean to say this:

If someone you know says, "I know this person," then in time down the road you go to a website such as an online service, and you think they actually are the person your acquaintance is talking about, do you recognize them?

Nope.

I don't think in words, and i have to see a person to know who they are. Descriptions of people are just too vauge. It could be too many people.

I'm not sure that I understand this.

I do know that I have a horrible time recognizing faces out of context (different setting, or in pedestrian clothes when I usually see them in uniform, etc etc).

Chamoisee:

If you are told about a certain person, and you see a clear description of them, do you recognize them?

Someone I have not seen before, or someone I know? If I have not seen them before, the description would have to be very detailed and with my making a mental picture in my head of them, i.e. an asian guy with glasses wearing a bright red beret, and he would have to be the ONLY asian guy wearing a red beret. The color fo the clothign would be what would set me off. Otherwise, I have a hard enough time recognizing people I've allready seen before!! !

No. People are very difficult for me to identify from a description, even if I actually know them - they always look completely different from the description so the description seems misleading to me. And strangers, forget it. I also have difficulty in recognising people out of context, especially if I do not know them well. This is not severe enough to be considered prosopagnosia, but its still embarassing. :x

Oh, so your thought processes have to work very hard, and sometimes, it is hard for you all to distinguish certain people just by looking at them.
