Were you practicing to Helter Skelter by the Beatles, by any chance?

black lines? clean your strings or put on a new set, man.

anyways, my fingers usually end up hurting by the end of the day. doesn't help that i have the heaviest flatwound bass strings i could find....but hey, it builds character.

I play a 12-string, so I get two dents in each finger. My Stick leaves no dents, though.

I just put on a new set...

also, side track...I wanted to try out high-tension strings, but on of the strings was faulty, and popped as soon as I tuned it! Grrrr! I had to change my strings twice in a day! Shar Music got a (politely) angry phone call.

In any case, the black lines are still there. one of my profs said that it was a chemical reaction or something...

Your not playing enough if you get blisters. You need callouses. lol. When I'm away from the guitar or Bass to long I lose them and coming back is painful. You can help build callouses by using your thumb nail on the tips of your fingers. I do this all the time out of habit now.
