I believe the Sinatra interpretation. I never gave it much thought prior to that, but assumed it was Jane. She and Paul quarrelled a lot about her acting / singing career, and she was from an influential family. He lived in their attic. He was known to cheat on her a lot during that time and John wanted him all to himself. He'd basically abandoned Cynthia and Julian by then and didn't want Paul tied down.

If Lennon were addressing Paul ABOUT Jane then yes...that would make sense. "You say you have been everywhere, and
your bird can sing..." . Makes sense as a theory too.
