Need to keep little hands busy and occupied...

I used to like silly putty.

I have a rubber ball that's kind of thinnish, and has raised peg/bubble things on it. I got it at a carnival of all places. It's the best.

Yeah, I used to have one called Intelligent Putty off FireBox.com.

Mmm... It was divine... Trouble was, everyone else liked to play with it too... Grr...

My son loves, playdoh or pipe cleaners.

Beads, necklaces, buttons (and jars to put them in) or Barbie doll shoes, my youngest just loves little things.

For the oldest it is twirling her hair with her fingers.

Definitely silly putty. To this day it can occupy me for hours. Small crafts too (stuff I could pocket or put in a bag to take with and do anywhere) like crochet and needlework. I take my crochet to the movies because I can't stand not doing something and can do it mostly by touch. I love the look people give me when I pull it out there too lol. 'Studs, piercrings, tattoos and crochet. WTF" is the best way to describe the look

My little one likes silly putty too. And this doodle pad thing. It has all the shapes magnets connected to it with string so they can't be lost. When he isn't drawing on it he messes with those usually.

I've bought my son numerous squeeze balls but he loses them quickly; the whole point is to not think about what he is doing, and in not thinking, the ball rolls away ...

Maybe I should buy more silly putty. He's had some, but it has tended to end up in inappropriate places from which it gets discarded ....

Lol, we've never solved this one all that adequately.

I got my teen son a Rubik's cube.
A stress ball is always good.

A pen or PDA stylus.

Kuish balls < not sure if I spelled that right but they are the hairy looking ones and they don't roll >. Squishy light up balls with spikeys on them again they don't roll under the car seat or off the table. Match box cars. Moonsand but the get the white the colored stuff stains and I had to put this away because jake was eating it. A tub of dried beans and rice with sandbox toys is fun for him and well and water tables are great and you can find plaistic ones with lids now in toy stores . sorry I know you asked for the best but it's hard to know what jakes going to like day to day more so I just keep it all around.

Mine would have to be a finger skateboard. I think it has to do with the fact that I PLay Tony Hawk Pro Skater Video games alot and mastered them
