ok so first off im female and i was questionably diagnosed with aspergers at about 4 or 5 please do not take offense to any of this but im pretty sure i don't have it. i've been reading some posts and i just can't identify with most of it. sure im shy sometimes and moody and definitely learning impaired to some degree but some stuff i read here is just for lack of a better term "wackadoo" lolz. i mean "anihalating all nt's" and furry porn stuff and obsessions with diapers? and stalking girls and being offended when they call the cops i mean come on! also i don't get offended easily either i have a normal social life and a great relationship. i also have pretty normal social skills i understand and use properly facial expressions etc... oh and the hygeine (sp) mine is immpecable. my real aspie friend however his is DEPLORABLE! never cleans his room takes a shower or brushes his teeth and smells like feces oh and he farts in peoples faces and thinks it is acceptable and he asks me why he can't get a gf and i just have to lie through my teeth. which brings me to another point i do indeed have empathy and eye contact and conversational skills i was also told by 2 psychologists and my aspie friend that i don't have it so does this discredit my diagnosis? you tell me! :?:

You sound pretty normal to me too. Luckily you won't have to go through hell and high-water toget an NT diagnosis; just don't tell anyone and if your social skills are good enough, they won't know any different.

There's quite a few people here with mild AS, but you're right, they're not as noticeable as the 'death-to-NT crowd'.

I was diagnosed when I was 21 and the way I look at it is; I do my best to appear normal, and for the most part I put on a passable performance, but when I do mess up, having the diagnosis means I don't beat myself up as much as I used to. I don't mean that I absolve myself of all guilt, but I am more willing to let go and chalk it up to experience than I used to be, allowing me to bypass the social phobia and become more confident.

Is it possible you "outgrew" the symptoms?

We're all different. Not all aspies are dirty people and messy. I like to be clean and I can't stand slobs.
I'm not into furry porn. I don't hate "NTs." I think the word is stupid and the bashing. I mean I have seen some pretty bad aspies too and they also pull the same crap none aspies have done.
Hey there are even none aspies who are into diapers and furry porn.

Why can't you be honest with your aspie friend? I would have just told him 'because you're dirty, you never bathe or shower or brush your teeth and you literally stink, you don't respect people because you fart in their faces." People gotta know the truth.

If you go around linking Asperger Syndrome to diaper fetishes, stalking people and wishing death on a significant proportion of the human population, then there is a good chance you will offend someone sooner or later.

None of these things apply to me. What on earth has your friend’s hygiene got to do with anything? I know plenty of people without any ASD who are hygienic and plenty who are not. This is a trait that is variable among any population for goodness sake.

As for how well you understand non verbal cues, you would probably need to test that objectively to be certain. Of course it’s plausible that you have been misdiagnosed, but being in a good relationship, having good hygiene and not being a furry are not indicators as to that either which way.

You claim you're definitely learning impaired. Have you been officially diagnosed with a learning disability or do you just believe you're learning impaired? Either way....what kind of learning difficulties do you exhibit?

Based on everything else you wrote, it SEEMS like you may have been misdiagnosed with AS. If so, i'd guess your problems are due to your learning disability (assuming you have one) and/or ADD/ADHD. There are other possibilities of course, but based everything you wrote, these things seem as likely as any IMO.

I don't think you have aspergers either. You we're probably misdiagnosed.

I don't know where you came up with that list of aspie stereotypes, but I fit none of them. In fact, I am about the exact opposite of them. I am not learning impaired as you imply. In fact I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Masters of Engineering. I am not obssesed with porn, stalking girls, or diapers. My personal hygiene is also impeccable. In fact beyond impeccable. If not kept in check I will wash my hands until they dry, crack and bleed. My hair is not messed up. I need it kept very short and kempt. I get obssesive about messy and/or long hair. It needs to be short, neat and symmetrical. I don't hate NT's. I married one. Thats a bizzare list you have. You can't judge a whole group of people becuase you know one like that. Saddam Hussein is NT, maybe I should assume all NTs are like Saddam. Come on now- get real.

If your curious why you see some hatred of NTs on this site, then go back and read your original post. It oozes of hatred, disdain, mocking, and horrible stereotyping of people with aspergers. Maybe they hate NTs becuase the NTs hated them first.

My thoughts exactly!

I don't think the things you stated necessarily discredit your diagnosis.

That's what I'm thinking. Asperger's isn't one-size fits all, and it's often different in women than in men. Coming to a forum that is populated by people on the spectrum and then saying, "I don't think I'm one of you because I don't fart in people's faces and have hygiene problems" isn't exactly a prime example of excellent social skills.

Just saying.

You walk into a room full of people who all share a disability and start slamming them with bizarre accusations and ridiculous blanket stereotypes, even insinuating that as a direct result of their disability they're all filthy and disgusting animals and you think you have adequate social skills?

Either you have a serious dysfunction in your ability to know how to behave and communicate appropriately in social groups, or you're a troll.

Maybe, maybe not. The OP does say she has normal social skills, and unless that statement is a consequence of lack of insight (in which case she should ask someone who knows her well and will answer honestly to evaluate them), it is quite likely that she is either no longer diagnosable or never was. It is not at all unknown for people with slight AS to grow out of the diagnosis by learning all required skills (though, in my opinion, you can never grow out of the brain configuration).

What kind of Aspies are you guys? Where is your famous sensitivity to details? ;)

If she is dx at 4 or 5 and age is 27 that mean 22 years ago before Aspergers diagnosis existed.
And only one post but has read the site from one end to the other to produce a provocative list?

So, you're saying this isn't acceptable?

But....but.....but AS was coined in 1981 so very few doctors knew about it then. There was even a AS criteria created in 1989 and then Gillberg's in 1991 and I found out last month my psychiatrist knew of AS since the late 1980's because he kept up with autism through documents. I was shocked. He was sure ahead of our country.

That's what I figured about the OP.
