Many doomsayers choose to continue living out of false hope.

Wren=me=extreme realist (doomsayer)

Wren+false hope=advocate of conservation.

Humans+greed=death of all life on this planet.

Humans-greed=ha ha, like that will ever happen.

Life is full of unexpected surprises. It's worthwhile hanging around to see what happens.

Naah. If you need me I'll be sleeping 16 hours a day under a pile of blankets in the seed vault.

Death, however it comes, will likely be a misery until the last second.

Recently a snowboarder died when he fell head first into a sink hole in the snow. There he slowly suffocated. I was horrified to read that, but i then realized that slowly wasting away from something like cancer would be even worse.

So it probably doesnt matter how we die. We will. And come heaven or hell or just the void, we will be done thinking about it after.

So my thought on the matter is that massive planetary death would be a novel experience.. just as every mundane day is. I'm happy to experience a new day each day.

On the bright side it turns men back to manly endeavors and hobbies like survivalism, hunting, fishing, fire-arms, etc.

I worry about the amount of hydrogen in the universe.

I read in Exploring: The Earth and the Cosmos by Isaac Asimov that in several trillion years the universe's hydrogen will be depleted, the stars will die, and the Universe will become a cold, dead, void.

I choose to go on existing because nobody likes me, and I channel my bitterness into annoying as many people I can.

Maybe I should stand on a street corner with a homeade sign and shout 'the truth' at everyone I see.?

I expect christians have similar reasons.
The world is sssllloooowwllyy enlightening, and as this happens their numbers slowly dwindle. Thus, they don't kill themselves so they can go to 'heaven', in order to hamper the progress of society.

Society doesn't progress, it stumbles from one disaster to another. The road to hell is paved with good inventions.

No, the road to hell has a big sign saying 'Welcome to New Jersey'.

Y'know, you're right.

If my slaves ever get pregnant I'll just toss the newborn into the communal rubbish heap, like the ancient Romans did.

And then I'll burn the slave alive after a day on the rack.

Oh wait.
People don't do those things anymore.

I call that progress.

The road to hell is most often paved with greedy desires for heaven.
