To the OP: Do you think that Christians opinions about that humans being classified as apes would carry some scientific relevance or any relevance at all?

No, I am not a Christian. Culturally, I am but I don't believe in the basic tenets of virgin birth, resurrection or the whole "saved" crap.
I think the fundies are actually in the minority, they just make the most noise.
As to the question, no I am not offended to know how much DNA information we share with apes. I find it fascinating. Whenever I see evidence of tool use by other primates I think "Cool, evolution in action".

I'm not asuming all christians are fundamentalists, because they're not. I'm just wondering how it affects the idea of man being created in "god's image".

Being religious does not necessarily indicate a person holds to idiotic ideas but it helps.
