"Down through the the stream of time a number of voyages have occurred without navigational significance. Noah's experience in the ark is of little interest navigationally, except for his use of a dove to locate land. There is evidence to support the view that at least some American Indians reached these [American] shores by sea, the earliest of several groups probably having come about 2200 BC, the approximate time that a general exodus seems to have occurred from a center in southwestern Asia. This is about the time the Tower of Babel is believed to have been built. It is noteworthy that almost every land reached by the great European explorers was already inhabited."

Chapter I, History of Navigation, in the American Practical Navigator, from 1962., published and rewritten by the U.S. Navy Hydrographic Office.

Humans have been emigrating out of Africa for over 75,000 years. Mostly by land.

My take on Matthew 16:19 was more interesting.

Very interesting parakeet. Here's some more evidence:

OVER 4,350 years ago, according to the Bible’s historical record, the floodgates of the heavens were opened and a deluge overwhelmed the entire earth. Ungodly, violent humans and all those who were so indifferent that they refused to take note of God’s warning were destroyed. The Flood was survived only by righteous Noah and his family, eight persons in all, along with a limited number of each kind of animal life, in a huge ark built at God’s direction.—Ge 7:1-24.

The fact that the Flood really occurred is verified by a number of Bible writers.

(Isaiah 54:9) This is just as the days of Noah to me. Just as I have sworn that the waters of Noah shall no more pass over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not become indignant toward you nor rebuke you.

(2 Peter 3:5, 6) 5 For, according to their wish, this fact escapes their notice, that there were heavens from of old and an earth standing compactly out of water and in the midst of water by the word of God; 6 and by those [means] the world of that time suffered destruction when it was deluged with water.

(Hebrews 11:7) By faith Noah, after being given divine warning of things not yet beheld, showed godly fear and constructed an ark for the saving of his household; and through this [faith] he condemned the world, and he became an heir of the righteousness that is according to faith

The strongest evidence, however, is the testimony of Jesus Christ himself, who was an eyewitness in the heavens. (Compare John 8:58.) He pointedly said: “In the days of Noah, . . . the flood arrived and destroyed them all.”—Luke 17:26, 27.

The account of the Flood is far more than a story. Jesus Christ indicated that it has prophetic significance. In his prophecy about “the conclusion of the system of things,” he made specific reference to “the days of Noah.” He pointed to the Flood as a warning example of a greater destruction to come during “the presence of the Son of man.”—Matthew 24:3, 37-39.

And the story of a vessel filled with souls surviving a great flood isn't just found in the Bible. It is in the Legends of people all over the earth. Samples from six continents and the islands of the sea; hundreds of such legends are known:

People probably ask: 'Where Did the Floodwaters Go?' Evidently they are right here on earth. Today there is about 1.4 billion cu km (326 million cu mi) of water on the earth. It covers more than 70 percent of the globe’s surface. The average depth of the oceans is 4 km (2.5 mi); average elevation of the land is only 0.8 km (0.5 mi) above sea level. If the earth’s surface was smoothed out, it would all be covered with water to a depth of 2,400 m (8,000 ft)

Water c. 70 percent of earth’s surface
Land c. 30 percent

Could the Ark Have Held All the Animals?

It is true that encyclopedias refer to over a million species of animals. But Noah was instructed to preserve only representatives of every “kind” of land animal and flying creature. Some investigators have said that just 43 “kinds” of mammals, 74 “kinds” of birds, and 10 “kinds” of reptiles could have produced the great variety of species of these creatures that are known today. The ark had about 40,000 cu m (1,400,000 cu ft) of usable space—ample for the passenger list.

Also worth noting the Ark was too small to bring dinosaurs onboard. Virtually ALL dinosaurs perished during the Great Flood. Many scientists have found areas containing large deposits of dinosaur bones from dinosaurs that typically didn't congregate together. In other words they were terrified of rapidly rising water so much so that they travelled together in large packs to find dry land. On this Scholastic page it says: "Sometimes the bones are scattered over a large area or mixed with other dinosaurs." The great flood literally filled the earth and covered it. The arctic regions and higher elevations were once tropical and grasslands, but their distance from the equator and elevations plus the abundance of water transformed these regions into frozen wastelands. The constant, unending, deluge of pouring rain for 40 days and 40 nights caused many species to rapidly freeze. For example, in 1901 Siberia a full mammoth was uncovered after thousands of years with vegetation still in its mouth. Some see in this, as well as in such other things as marine fossils found on high mountains, convincing evidence of a sudden, catastrophic global flood.

It is of interest that the Chinese character for “ship” is derived from the idea of “eight persons in a vessel.” This bears a striking resemblance to the Bible account about Noah and his family, eight persons, who survived the Flood in an ark (1 Peter 3:20)

You know you're quick to dismiss it as "just a story" but you provide no evidence to support your statement. I provided more than a page of global, cultural, historical, scientific and biblical evidence that says the Great Flood was real and it occurred. Can you prove it didn't happen? Where's your evidence?

You know, I rather think God gave us our intellect and curiosity so that we could investigate the world He created, rather than just taking the word of ancient myths of various cultures as to what happened.

But if you'd rather read myths from around the world rather than data that you can go and confirm for yourself, and toss His gift back in His Face, it's completely up to you - that's what free will is all about, after all...
