Any fans here? I'd first heard of it when I was still in high school, and pretty much all I knew about it at the time was that it was a comedy and that some bands I liked had been on it. But I never checked it out until recently, when I found it online and ended up watching every episode. Such bizarre, non sequitur humor; I love it.

Have you seen Bottom? That's very similar indeed.

Can't say that I have. I'll have to check it out. I love chaotic British comedy.

The Young Ones is hilarious. Neil is my favourite.

I love how some things that are just flatly absurd appear from out of nowhere, like when the matchbook says "Don't look at me. I'm irrelevant", and then the plot just goes on. So many shows attempt nonsensical humor like that now, but rarely manage to be nearly as funny.

I'll check it out on YouTube. :)

I Love The Young Ones. I have all the episodes on video. Yes, video. From the olden days of VCRs. I have also updated to the DVDs but can't bear to throw out the much loved tapes.

When I was in college I used to know a guy who was so much like Niel it's spooky. I was hooked when I saw it because they just nailed it. He ate lentils all the time too! Blech! I would look into that dubious aluminum pot and it would always be lentils he was cooking.

I think The Young Ones also had some truly amazing music. Motorhead. Madness. Rip, Rig and Panic. But especially Motorhead. I always liked the offhand way these bands would just appear in their living room for no plausible reason.

Heh, it was the stuff of my childhood.

Neil singing to the testcard "groovy, ooooooohhhhhhh"
Rik finding a 'toy mouse' in a girl's handbag...

Link to Episode clip (including a very young Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry & Emma Thompson)
Yes it does end with a giant eclair squashing everyone who hasn't already been blown up...that's the sort of thing that goes on :D

You should watch Bottom it stars Rick Mayal who played Rick and Aidrian Edmenson who played Vvyian. Its the same type of humor but more violent and funny.

Really great series. Both Bottom and The Young Ones.

I got Bottom on DVD, the Young Ones not yet.

The talking toilet in The Young Ones is too bizarre.

*flashes peace sign* Vegetable rights and peace!

So yes, you could call me a fan of that show. My all time favorite episode by far is "Bambi" (the one with the quiz show at the end). But my absolute favorite line exchange comes from the episode "Nasty", between Vyvyan and a vicar played by Terry Jones:

Vicar: What-ho, I'm the vicar.
Vyvyan: Well you'd better be, otherwise you'd look right GIRLIE in that dress!
Vicar: [pokes Vyvyan in the eye]

I roll over laughing every time I hear that. :P

The first episode I ever saw was when I was 15. It was the University Callange episode with Motorhead. I have been hooked ever since. 8)

My favorite lines from that episode were

"You facist Juanta" Then Vvyian hits Rik in the head with a cricket bat.

and

"Ha, Ha you missed both my legs!" When Vvyian hit Rick in the groin with the cricket bat.
